If you ask me, Ford’s recent ad in response to Cadillac’s ELR Hybrid Coupe spot featuring actor Neil McDonough, is absolutely brilliant. Cadillac’s ad features the actor walking through his huge mansion, sitting by his pool, and talking about what he considered to be the American work ethic. In short, the point of the ad is that Americans work long, hard hours so they can afford things like the Cadillac Hybrid. That it’s more important to work hard and get these luxuries than it is to take time off, as people in other countries may do. Many people ridiculed this advertisement for presenting a misguided perspective.

Then, along came Ford’s response. An ad for the Ford C-Max Energi followed the same structure, but instead featured Pasho Murray, a real person from Detroit who started a company called Detroit Dirt that collects waste and sells it as compost for those who want to create urban gardens. She has a different view on American work ethic, which should be to work hard in order to do some good and make our country, and the world, a better place.

Check out both videos below and let us know what YOU think the motivating force behind American work ethic should be!
